See how Morris helped GSC Power Division boost precision, cut cycle times, and keep production running strong with unmatched support and Okuma machines.
GSC Power Division, founded in 2006 by Greg Caloudas, has carved a niche for itself in the automotive performance aftermarket by engineering and manufacturing industry-leading valve train components. Starting with a small-scale operation outsourcing camshaft manufacturing, GSC quickly grew into a full-fledged manufacturer, producing high-performance components for turbocharged vehicles. Over the past 18 years, Greg’s vision and commitment to quality have driven the company’s growth.
The company’s relentless pursuit of quality and performance has been the cornerstone of its success. By focusing on innovation and precision, GSC Power Division has established itself as a trusted name in the industry, providing components that enhance the performance of high-powered vehicles.
When GSC first invested in Okuma’s GENOS M560-V, Morris provided more than equipment. Their applications engineers spent days on-site, walking the team through programming and controls. “We left after four days and felt like we’d been doing it for four years,” Greg recalls. That early support turned what could have been a steep learning curve into a smooth start.
Okuma’s ability to hold extremely tight tolerances was a key factor in GSC’s decision. Producing billet camshafts that must withstand high horsepower applications leaves no room for error, and Okuma’s machines provided the stability and accuracy to meet those demands. Another deciding factor was location. With Okuma’s North American headquarters in Charlotte, NC, support and parts availability were close at hand. For GSC in Charleston, SC, that proximity meant added confidence in long-term service and reliability.
Beyond accuracy, Okuma machines also delivered real efficiency gains. When GSC installed two LT3000 EX turning centers, they quickly noticed how much faster the Okuma controls handled spindle orientation and live milling compared to their previous machine.
“We saved about three minutes on a 14-minute cycle time just from indexing, transferring, and live milling heads,”
— Greg Caloudas, President & Founder, GSC Power Division
“The C-axis control was so much quicker that it almost felt like we didn’t even need two machines to keep up.” That speed translated directly into higher throughput and reduced costs, making a lasting impact on daily operations.
The relationship with Morris only grew stronger. Sales representative Todd Drechsler became more than a point of contact, he became a partner. Whether GSC needed help with service, applications, or machine tools, Todd opened doors to solutions inside Morris.
“You’re not just calling an 800 number. You’re reaching back out to somebody you know, who’s helped you every step of the way”
— Greg Caloudas
One example stands out. GSC had issues with tooling heads on their LT3000 machines that prevented them from producing as intended. Even though the problem dated back more than a year, Morris worked with Velocity Products to replace the units with the right fit at no extra cost. “It really set the stage for what Morris is about. They’re there the whole step of the way,” Greg says.
Service expertise also made a lasting impact. During a particularly complex restart situation in camshaft machining, a Morris service technician discovered an overlooked M-code hidden in the Okuma control. That single find eliminated the need for custom macros and subprograms, dramatically simplifying restarts and saving GSC time on the shop floor.
For Greg, these stories define why Morris is more than a supplier. “They’re an invaluable partner,” he says. “When you’re dealing with expensive machines, keeping them running and productive is everything. Morris really cares about their customers, and that makes all the difference”
As GSC looks to the future with automation and advanced technology, they know they can rely on Morris to guide the way. Because at the heart of this partnership is more than machines; it is trust, service, and a commitment to long-term success.
